Making America Sick Again. Been there! Don’t want to do it again.

By May 23, 2025No Comments

‘Don’t want to go back and do it again?  Oops!  We’re already on the path.

Consider COVID-19. Just days ago, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary RFK Jr. missed an opportunity to demonstrate that he isn’t just an anti-vaxxer when Novavax’s new COVID-19 vaccine was approved with severe limitations. Unlike previously approved COVID-19 vaccines, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) restricted Novavax to seniors and individuals over age 12 with specific medical conditions that make them high-risk.

  • Think about it this way. The Administration prefers kids and working parents to get COVID-19 rather than get a preventative vaccine. My Central New Jersey Reports.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) had been considering whether COVID-19 vaccines should be recommended for everyone. The vaccines are estimated to have saved about 3.2 million lives in the first two years. We assume Secy. RFK Jr. doesn’t care.

Kennedy has authority over the FDA, CDC, and the National Institute of Health (NIH).

But wait! There are more, e.g., measles, preventive care for women’s health, and big cuts in feeding. The war is on against women and children. I’ll bet you already know that consistently hungry kids are more likely to be sick kids. PBS reports: House Republicans narrowly passed Trump’s ‘big, beautiful’ bill. Here’s what’s in it

Ah, yes, sick kids. Trump’s BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL forces a parent to go to work as soon as their kid is seven years old so her family can qualify for SNAP — Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program.

  • Eggs are $5 a dozen—minimum! Tariffs continue to force food prices upwards, and the minimum wage doesn’t stretch even a little bit. I’m wondering if anyone will notice when/if the seven-year-old kids get home safely from school.
  • HHS Secretary RFK Jr has cancelled many (all?) kinds of research, so forget bird flu, forget new medicines to help with old diseases, forget new ideas and research. This Administration says it isn’t worth the money.

But it’s not only eggs. The BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL is bad, BAD! news for people who make under $50,000. Republicans in the House cut $625 billion from Medicaid. 71 million Americans depend on Medicaid, but never mind that. Republicans are counting on the changes to cause 7.6 million people to lose their health insurance.

If you’re 55-64, the new work requirements come after you, too. Do you need SNAP? Maybe you are a grandmother struggling to raise your grandchildren. It’s time for you to go to work, too. Earn your benefits. My Central New Jersey reports.

But the bottom line is that prices are going up. Trump wants big companies like Walmart and Amazon to take the blame for rising prices, but it’s not them at the heart of the price increases; it’s Trump’s tariffs. Food, clothing, medicine, and hospital services will all cost more.  Many other items will too.
